Charlotte Aiken Luminance Mini II Oil and gold leaf on paper Signed on Verso 10 x 15cm (3¾ x 5¾ in.) This lot has been curated by AOAP About Charlotte Aiken is a Gloucestershire-based artist, creating visual impressions of the sky through the use of oil paint and mixed media. Her practice celebrates the sublimity of the sky and explores her own fascination with cloud formations and the power of nature. Charlotte graduated from the School of Art, Architecture and Design, London, in 2017. Shortly after graduating Charlotte won the Graduate Art Prize, with ARTIQ, London. Charlotte has exhibited across London and parts of the UK. In 2023 her painting was exhibited in 'Only Connect', The Royal Academy's Summer Exhibition, curated by David Remfry Charlotte's work centres on the notion of infinity, as exemplified by her representations of the sky. The composition of her paintings is guided by the structure of the cloud formations she photographs. She chooses on occasion to use decorating brushes to accentuate imperfection and texture, recreating an impression of the sky rather than an accurate portrayal. Charlotte's work is often informed by her autism, which, she says, places her in a world that can feel overexposed, pixelated, and too vivid. She uses her paintings to comprehend what she observes; the layers of colour and brush strokes are physical manifestations of what the world looks like through her eyes.
