Chateau Haut-Brion 1982 Chateau Haut-Brion 1982 Pessac-Leognan (Graves), 1er Cru Classe Lot 217: u. 7x3cm, very slightly soiled labels, otherwise good appearance Lot 218: u. 9x3cm, 3x3.5cm, 4 soiled labels, 2 slightly wrinkled labels Lot 219: u. 4x3cm, 2x4cm, 1x4.5cm, 1 slightly nicked label, 1 creased label, slightly stained labels, 2 corroded capsules Last 'enjoyed' (and how) at a dinner in 2012 where it showed to sublime perfection. It remains rich, spicy and chocolatey, with smoky, 'earth' Pessac-Leognan flavours and a very velvety texture. To say that it slips down would be something of an understatement. Sumptuous leather and liquorice too. Serena Sutcliffe, MW Lot 217 12 bts (cn) Lot 218 12 bts (cn) Lot 219 12 bts (cn) per lot: HKD 46000-70000 per lot: USD 6000-9000 My overriding impression of this stunning First Growth is that it is the silkiest, most perfumed, most fine-grained of all the legendary top chateaux of Bordeaux. Haut-Brion has an inner 'spirituality' to it, a haunting quality that lingers long on the senses. Its unique position on the edge of the city of Bordeaux gives it a micro-climate that fosters ripeness and generosity - there is a velvety warmth to the wine. The extra 'plus' to the property is the family ownership and its long-standing link with three generations of another family, the Delmas, on the managing side which has provided a totally beneficial continuity to the estate. Haut-Brion often blooms early among the First Growths but, unlike human beings, it continues to grow more beautiful in middle age and retains the bone structure and elegance of a very distinguished old age!
