Château Lafite-Rothschild--Vintage 1982
12 bottles per lot
Collecting Bordeaux wines today is nothing really new, but in 1982 it wasn't common to collect one case of every vintage of all the top Bordeaux wines. This collection comprises a case from each of the eight top chateaux every year from 1982 to 1997: the five First Growths of 'the left bank' (Lafite-Rothschild, Latour, Margaux, Mouton-Rothschild, Haut-Brion) and the First Growths of 'the right bank' (Petrus, Cheval Blanc and Ausone). What is even more exceptional about this collection is the traceability: collected as an extraordinary series of birthday gifts spanning 15 years, one of the most famous and important Ngociant Bordelais has kept the wines in their private cellar in Bordeaux until September 2011 - ensuring wines in perfect condition and their original cases. To be also noted as unique, it is impossible to find a collection of Petrus with this perfect provenance and a unique chance to acquire a perfect vertical. A highlight of the collection is the 1980 to 1990 period - unquestionably a great decade for Bordeaux and matching the 1920s for the number of high-quality vintages. On the whole the weather was excellent and there was a renewed demand for en primeur wines, especially from private customers. In the USA and further afield, the 1982 vintage became a star: higher prices meant chateaux owners could afford better care in the vineyard, and in the chais they could afford the selection of just the best vats for the Grands Vins. The 1990s also shone, in particular the three standout vintages 1994, 1995 and 1996. What is also notable is the difference style of wine made in the 1990s - more modern, fleshier and impressively deep. Discover 15 years of the best of the best of Bordeaux with these incredible verticals. Château Lafite-Rothschild--Vintage 1982 Pauillac, 1er cru classé 12 bottles per lot
