Chinese, ca late 19th century. A Chinese painted porcelain plaque, dark hardwood frame, a winter scene, possibly depicting the Forbidden City. On verso, scratched into the surface of the frame's backing, is the following: From Dowager Empress Palace, Forbidden City, Peking, China, 1900. The plaque is clearly a remnant from a much larger construction, and was likely removed during the Boxer Rebellion. 16 x 9 in.
