Beschreibung:

Christine Swane (b. Kerteminde 1876, d. Farum 1960) Still life. Signed CSw 1953; signed and dated on the reverse. Oil on canvas. 101×45 cm. As the sister of the painter Johannes Larsen Christine Swane was included in a larger circle of performing artists. She studied at the Academy of Fine Arts from 1898–1901 and was subsequently taught by Fritz Syberg J.F. Willumsen and Harald Giersing Around 1910 she married the painter Sigurd Swane but the marriage broke up in 1920. Unlike many other women in artist marriages of the time, Swane continued her career and development as an artist. In the beginning, her starting point was the naturalism experienced by the Fynbo painters, which can be seen in her early flower pictures. Later, she develops her own visual language, where her flat form and discreet colour give her a distinctive and stylish expression. Over the past few years, interest in Christine Swane's works has been increasing, and we experience good demand when her works are offered at auction. This lot is part of our ongoing theme: Pioneering Women Artists 1850-1950 This lot is subject to Artist's Royalty. Artist’s Royalty In accordance with Danish copyright law, an additional royalty fee is to be paid for the purchase of works by contemporary Danish artist and some international artists who are either still alive, or who died within the last 70 years. × Read more Condition Original condition.
