Text ruled in red, first title in black and red, 2 double-page woodcut maps, numerous full-page genealogies and woodcuts in text. Contemporary calf, covers ruled in gilt with central gilt sun device, spine gilt, rebacked but spine preserved. Condition: first and final leaves with repaired tears, worming to fore margin of first signature, closed tear to S4, another leaf with closed tear in marginal, some light scattered spotting; joints cracked. Provenance : Daines Barrington (signed on title); Frederic John Goldsmid (autographed bookplate). A clean copy of the 'La Mer de Histoire, once owned by Daines Barrington (1727-1800), lawyer and antiquary. The work is celebrated for containing two early maps here reprinted in the 16th Century edition.
