Large title woodcut of Julius Caesar enthroned and Cicero writing in the background, on verso portrait of Baron Schwarzenberg by Weiditz after Dürer, surrounded by 16 coats of arms with decorative sidepieces, 101 illustrations by Hans Weiditz (one by Burgkmair), borders and initials throughout. (Occasional light dampstain or spotting, without final blank.) Contemporary German calf panelled wth blind-rolls (restored). Provenance : "Fürstenfeldensium ad S Leonardum" (16th-century inscription) -- Walter Hirst (bookplate).

It was preceded in German only by an anonymous translation in 1488. The majority of the fine woodcuts by Weiditz appear here for the first time. The edition was immediately reprinted twice, in April and December of the same year.
