Identified subjects include: uncredited standing portrait of Captain Isaac May, although penciled note on verso indicates the image was taken by Brady. May enlisted July 1861 as a captain and was commissioned into Co. A, 19th Indiana Infantry; promoted to major in February 1862; WIA at Gainesville in August 1862 and died of wounds on September 5, 1862 (CDV mount slightly trimmed, some soiling). This is likely Jesse Newport Potts of Richmond, IN, who enlisted as a hospital steward and mustered into 19th Indiana Infantry Field and Staff in July 1861; transferred into Co. Autographed view of Robert Neil McLaren, autographed below portrait, "With Regards of R.N.McLaren, Col. 2d MN Cavalry," and backmark of Whitney's Gallery, St. Paul, MN. McLaren enlisted on as a major in August 1862 and was commissioned into Field & Staff, 6th MN Infantry; discharged for promotion on January 1864 and commissioned into Field & Staff MN 2nd Cavalry; promoted to colonel January 1864; mustered out on November 1865; brevetted brigadier general December 1865.
