Autograph telegram signed in full as Secretary of War, to Major Henry Prince, Washington, D.C., 18 May l855, one page, 8vo, on printed form of The Magnetic Telegraph Company, Morse Line," the form filled out by Davis, and with message: "Do you desire the Appointment of Pay Master answer by Telegraph...." -- BUTLER, BENJAMIN F. ("Beast Butler"), General, U.S.A. Typed letter boldly signed ("Benj.F. Butler"), to Sarah E. Bartlett, Boston, 7 June 1887, one page, 4to, on ornate stationery of his law firm, stating his opinion that "there are not circumstances enough...to make it certain that you have a claim against those parties...for the damage to your woodland. You are doing just right in having it surveyed and the damage appraised. But I must know all the facts before I can give you an opinion upon it...." -- SHERIDAN, PHILIP, General, U.S.A. Autograph check signed ("P.H. Sheridan"), Chicago, 3 September 1877, one page, an oblong, small hole at upper corner, attractively printed in blue and orange, accomplished by Sheridan, drawn on the Union National Bank, ordering payment to himself (with second signature) of $175.00 -- CLAY, HENRY, Letter signed ("H.Clay") as Secretary of State, to Christopher Neale, Judge of the Orphans Court, Washington, D.C., 20 September 1826, one page, an oblong, in a good calligraphic hand, notifying him that "The President having appointed you Judge of the Orphans Court for the County of Alexandria....I have the honour of forwarding herewith your Commission...." -- FARRAGUT, DAVID GLASGOW, Admiral.
