Lot of 5. Three manuscript recruiting broadsides from Pembroke, MA. One dated June 7, 1864 calls for all enrolled men of Pembroke to meet on June 13th "for the purpose of taking such action as may be deemed proper toward recruiting our next quota." 8 x 10.5 in. Second dated July 26, 1864 is headed "Escape the Draft!" Again, all citizens, especially the men of the town, to meet to take action in filling the quota so that the draft does not go into effect. 8 x 12.5 in. Corners missing paper, not impacting text. Third is dated Aug. 18, 1864, headed "Once More to the Rescue!!" This one touts "Rare opportunities are now offered to enlist in Heavy Artillery for Coast Defence." 7.75 x 9.75 in. Broadside from Stoughton, [MA], Dec. 22, 1863. "Noble Project! To Set on Foot a Plan to Raise 20 Soldiers Before the 5th day of January, 1864." 11 x 14.5 in., with approx. 1 x 8 in. piece missing, just barely impacting text. Center fold separated. Manuscript Order No. 235 from the Head Quarters of Recruiting Service, Augusta, Maine, Nov. 6, 1862. Relieving one recruiting officer (Capt. Wm. McArthur) and appointing others (Lieut. Samuel Wallace and Sergt. James Shepard). 8 x 10 in. Provenance:Property of N. Flayderman & Co.
