Lot of 6. CDV of Salem Morse, 7th Iowa Cavalry. Backmark of P.B. Jones, Davenport, IA. Morse enlisted March 1, 1863 and was mustered out in May 1866. He enlisted as a 4th Lieut., and was promoted to 2nd Lieut. by the end of his service. CDV with ID on verso of W[illiam].W. Slade. He enlisted in the 1st Iowa Cavalry in Sept. 1861 as a private, and received promotions 8 to 3rd Corpl. and 6-2 Sergt. He veteranized in 1864 and mustered out in Feb. 1866. CDV of James Harrison US 5th Cav. Harrison was commissioned in the 2nd Cav. in 1856 as a 2nd Lieut. In 1861 he was promoted to 1st Lieut. and later transferred to the 5th Cavalry. He received promotions to Captain, Major by brevet (Hanover Court House) and Lieut. Col. by brevet (Antietam). He suffered a sunstroke after the Battle of Brandy Station, and was sent to Portland, ME to recover. This CDV bears the backmark of Trask & Davis, Portland, ME, and may well have been taken during this episode. He died of disease in November 1867 (some say 1866). Unidentified cavalry trooper, CDV with backmark of R.H. Kimball & Co., Leavenworth, KS. CDV of Edward M. McCook (1833-1909), no backmark. Plus clipped signature with "Brig. Gen. Comdg." One of the "Fighting McCooks" of Ohio. He was one of "Dr. John's" sons. Edward would go on to be Governor of Colorado Territory.
