Cockburn, the friend of Swift, made his fortune by the discovery of a successful cure for dysentery, then rife in the Navy; his description of, and cure for, gonorrhea was well thought of, and went through several editions and translations. Blake/NLM p. 92. MEAD, Richard (1673-1754). Medical Precepts and Cautions , translated from the Latin by Thomas Stack. London: J. Brindley, 1751. 8° (some light spotting), contemporary calf, red speckled edges (rebacked). FIRST EDITION IN ENGLISH, published in the same year as the Latin edition, Monita et praecepta medica .
