Collection in five stockbooks, offered intact save a 1d black and 1d red plate 225 (Lots 102 and 105 in this sale), the 19th century with plenty of interesting stamps incl. two 1d blacks, one four margins though close lower edge and faults, 1841 2d blues incl. '12' in cross three margins, imperf 1d reds incl. mint and blue MX example with good margins all round (cat. £2,700), as well as stated plate 9 (four margins) tied by black MX to cover of June 1841. Then perf 2d blues incl. plate 12, lots of 1d red 'stars' in better than usual quality incl. pairs and strip of three and lots of spoon cancels and other pmks on piece, plates incl. 212 former strip of three with Rawtenstall cds pmks, 221 MNH, etc, followed by much surface-printed, some nice cds on usual values, also noted 1862 1/- (SG.90) with 'defective corner letter 'A'' variety (spec.J101e), 1883/84 high values incl. 10/- pale ultramarine Whitby cds, through to EdVII with superb 5/-, useful KGV and KGVI, and a profusion of varieties on the QEII Wilding defins singles and multiples, better phosphors, etc, etc. Later mint issues to 2002 with several 1st class panes. Somewhat rough-and-ready presentation but unusual varieties will lurk here, especially in the classics.
