Title: Collection of 18 stereoviews of the White Sulphur Springs Hotel and Resort in Vallejo, California Author: Smith, James Girard Place: Vallejo, California Publisher: Date: c.1875 Description: 3½x7, on orange mounts imprinted J.G. Smith, Vallejo, Cal. Marvelous and scarce series of stereoviews of the White Sulphur Springs hotel and resort in Vallejo. Founded by General John B. Frisbie, son-in-law of Mariano Vallejo and founder of the city of Vallejo, the grand hotel had 100 rooms, bath houses, croquet grounds and many other amenities. Following several ownership changes, the hotel ceased operation in 1920. J.G. Smith, the photographer, an Englishman who emigrated to the U.S. in 1857, founded his Solano Art Gallery in 1864, operating it until 1889. In 1875 he formed a partnership with A.J. Perkins, and they ran the Smith & Perkins gallery at the same location. Lot Amendments Condition: Some soiling, foxing, and fading to imags, three with with creases and cracks to the emulsion, good to very good. Item number: 179182
