Beschreibung:

Circa 1920-1930 By Bertha Cuningham Chappel (1867 -1945) Produced by an amateur botanist between 1922 and 1930, this group of approximately 50 watercolors provides valuable information about the specimens depicted. Bertha Cuningham Chappel, a native of California, traveled extensively through the United States, Hawaii, Europe, Canada, and parts of the Middle East to record botanicals in watercolor—apparently producing more than 700 images. Detailed notes on the reverse side of many of the images range from identification and description to discovery, history and specific location where the plant was painted. Each image bears her inventory number. Chappel's watercolors were boxed in storage since the late 1930s until her grandson, James Cuningham, in the mid-1990s, rediscovered them in the attic of the family home. (50) Measuring 9 x 12in
