COLLECTION OF HOMILIES OF ST.MICHAEL AND ST.GABRIEL, in ge'ez, ILLUMINATED ETHIOPIAN MANUSCRIPT ON VELLUM. [Ethiopia, 1917-18 A.D.] 280 x 205mm, 224 leaves, apparently complete, collation: 1 2 (first blank cut away), 2-15 12 16 10 (f.16/10 presumably blank, cut away) 17-23 10 24 4 (with final blank). 20 lines double column, with pricking holes, written in black ink, rubrics in red, 10 headpieces with an angel, 8 VERY LARGE SERAPHS; ONE HALF-PAGE AND 11 FULL-PAGE MINIATURES in bright colours. Blind-tooled red sheepskin over wooden boards (upper cover detached). The colophon states that the manuscript belongs to Wäyzäro Sehin, whose baptismal name is Amätä Maryam, daughter of "King" Mika'él of Wollo and Tigre. It was completed in 1910 Ethiopian era. THE SUBJECTS OF THE MINIATURES ARE: folio 1 The Virgin folio 1v St.Michael folio 15v The Nativity folio 40v The Flight into Egypt folio 74v Virgin and Child folio 86v St.George folio 108 St.Gäbrä Mänfäs Queddus folio 118v St.Tälä Haymant folio 149 A Devil (half page) folio 150 St.Michael folio 150v St.Michael delivering souls from Hell folio 223v St.Gabriel Also included with the lot is a PSALTER AND CANTICLES WITH PRAISES OF THE VIRGIN [Weddase Maryam].
