95 photographs from the estate of Gideon Rafael (1913-1999), one of the first and most senior employees of the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where he worked for over thirty years. Raphael was the assistant of Moshe Sharett during Sharett's service as foreign minister of the Provisional Government and of the State of Israel; he was a member of the Israeli delegation to the U.N. (1948); he served as Israeli ambassador to Belgium, Luxembourg and the U.N., and as the Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Most of the photographs are from the 1960s and 1970s, from the periods when Raphael served as ambassador. They document his diplomatic activities, his meetings with prime ministers and ministers throughout the world and at the U.N., and with senior Israeli government officials. Many of the photographs are press photos. Many are captioned and dated on the verso, and signed with photographers' stamps. Average size: 24X18 cm. Good overall condition. Enclosed are relevant press clippings.
