.45 long-Colt caliber, 5.5" barrel, serial number on frame 5579. Backstrap trigger's serial number is 1728 and has sub-inspector's markings. Backstrap's serial number 18419. Cylinder's serial number 1042 with sub-inspector's JTC. Barrel with RAC sub-inspector's and a P. proof with serial number 139318. Barrel marked Colt's Patented Firearms Manufacturing Co. Hartford, CT, USA. Frame marking are Colt's two-line address with US markings. One-piece walnut grips with US martial cartouches on both left and right sides. RAC stamped on left side. OCH stamped on right side. Bull's-eye ejector rod. Barrel, ejector housing, backstrap, trigger guard and cylinder are blued. Hammer and frame have case-hardened colors. Screws are blued. Condition: Finish on barrel and cylinder is ca 80%, but thinning. Feather polishing marks are still visible around front sight. Frame retaining ca 60% case coloring. Cylinder retaining ca 20% original finish with heavy concentration in fluted area. Trigger guard retains ca 70% finish, but thinning inside of grip strap. Finish on backstrap ca 10% on top of backstrap, and the rest of the backstrap's finish is worn to bright. Grips retain most of their original oiled finish. Grips do not fit revolver well, but probably original (N.B. these guns were assembled with mixed parts). Overall a very sharp and respectable Colt from the Spanish-American War period.
