Iron curb bit sheathed in brass with German silver rosettes embossed with the Louisiana state seal of a pelican feeding her young. Black leather bridle and reins with brass buckles and oval starburst embossed rosettes. It has been suggested that this bridle and bit are French imports. A French imported saddle with similar pelican rosettes was ordered for Confederate Gen. Beaureguard but was never delivered. The blockade runner on which it was shipped was captured and the saddle auctioned by the US government. Provenance: John Ashworth Collection Condition: Very good. The bit retains almost all of the brass veneer with minor pitting on the exposed iron. The leather is complete and flexible with minor to moderate age crazing.
