Working with the state geological surveys of Pennsylvania and several states in the Mississippi Valley, he contributed some of the earliest descriptions of the Carboniferous flora in North America and helped flush out the basic geology of coal formation. Josiah Whitney was the State Geologist for California from 1860-74, during which time he directed the geologic survey of the state. Lot Amendments Condition: Very minor wear to cloth, hinges cracking; otherwise a fine and bright copy. Item number: 180019
