COOLIDGE, Calvin (1872-1933), President . Autograph letter signed ("Calvin Coolidge") AS PRESIDENT, to his Amherst College classmate Herbert L. Pratt, Washington, D.C., 19 March 1924. 1 full page, 4to, on pale green "The White House Washington" stationery. Very fine condition. PRESIDENT COOLIDGE TO A COLLEGE CLASSMATE, PRESIDENT OF STANDARD OIL COMPANY. A rare ALS of Coolidge in office. "It was a real pleasure to get your note and I hasten to respond. You will recall perhaps the lunch Mrs. Coolidge and I attended at your daughter's when she was in town. Please remember us to her. I trust your football training keeps you from ever having a worn look. Very cordially your classmate" The recipient, Herbert Lee Pratt (1871-1945), had been a member of the same 1895 Amherst College class as Coolidge. Unlike the rather reclusive Coolidge, Pratt had been an active athlete and captain of the football team, which Coolidge alludes to in his letter. Pratt followed his father's footsteps in later life and was President of Standard Oil at the time of this letter.
