to form the 110cm., or 42 inch globe, from the Libero dei Globi, after Coronelli’s original set of 12 full-length gores of 1688, with large decorative title cartouche of classical and allegorical figures, including Coronelli’s portrait, other decorative cartouches and numerous ships, sea nymphs, whales, land animals, hunting and other scenes, also numerous text panels, engraved gores, each average 460 x 285mm. at widest, sheets each c.490 x 395mm., but one larger sheet (Southern Europe and North Africa) 525 x 365mm., one sheet (Indian Ocean) supplied from the Isolario, with text below and on verso, one gore (North Pacific) trimmed to the platemark and with slight show-through of 19th century manuscript annotations on verso, sheets otherwise generally in good condition, 12 with visible watermarks of the triple crescent, the north and south polar calottes each 380mm. and 370mm. diameter, respectively, the sheets both 495 x 400mm., both with triple crescent watermarks consistent with the gore sheets, each with a vertical fold towards the right sheet edge, the north polar calotte with a narrow tapering section cut away, affecting the outer, or lower, circle of latitude, affecting some lettering but otherwise a featureless area of sea, [Shirley 537], Venice, 1696.
