In the letter to Abba Eban, Israel Ambassador to the USA, Ben Gurion writes: "Simultaneously as we boost our military preparations, we continue our efforts to achieve peace, but we will not buy peace at the price of concessions that destroy the State of Israel's existence and lead to encroachment and schemes of its destruction. We do not have any basis for suspicions that the US will demand us to concede Eilat or the continuity of access to the city, and Israel will under no circumstances, unilaterally concede to return and settle Arab refugees in Eilat". In his letter to MK Meir Ya'ari, Ben Gurion writes: "IDF has not and never had even one political appointment. The army cannot fulfill its mission, not in security matters and not in settlement and education without unity and ethical goodwill of comrades in weapon. I will not let the IDF become an arena of political and ideological struggle of all types of parties and factions".
