De Siloé, Gil - Werkstatt — Museale thronende Madonna mit Kind — (Antwerpen (?) um 1440 - um 1500 Burgos) Auf einem Thron mit markant ausgearbeiteter Bodenplatte sitzende, gekrönte Madonna als Sedes sapientia mit offenen Haaren, gegürtetem Kleid und Mantel, der in ihrem Schoß in ausladenden V-förmigen Knitterfalten drapiert ist, in ihrem rechten Arm das nackte Jesuskind haltend. Alabaster. 33 x 23 x 12 cm. - Altersspuren, kleine Reste früherer Fassung, Arme und Beine des Jesuskindes verloren, sowie die linke Hand Mariens, Kopf der Maria von alter Hand restauriert. - Gil de Siloé wurde von der Königin Isabella von Portugal beauftragt, zahlreiche skulpturale Projekte auszuführen, unter anderem auch den Skulpturenschmuck in der Kathedrale von Burgos und das 1493 vollendete Doppelgrabmal aus Alabaster für Juan II. und Isabella von Portugal in Caruja de Miraflores. - Lit. Alabaster. 33 x 23 x 12 cm. - Signs of age, small remains of earlier setting, arms and legs of the infant Jesus lost, as well as the left hand of Mary, head of Mary restored by an old hand. - Gil de Siloé was commissioned by Queen Isabella of Portugal to execute numerous sculptural projects, including the sculptural decoration in Burgos Cathedral and the double tomb in alabaster for Juan II and Isabella of Portugal in Caruja de Miraflores, completed in 1493. - Lit.
