Description: A scarce WW2 era Caterpillar Club badge, with its Certificate of Membership, and other associated items relating to Flight Sergeant L.C.Crossman R.A.F. To include: an original Caterpillar Club membership badge, manufactured in gilt, with red enamel eyes. Complete with a safety pin style pin and clasp to the reverse, and the correct naming for ‘F/S L.C.Crossman’. The pin is currently housed in a non original plastic jewellery box. Also included is the original Caterpillar Club certificate of membership card with a laminated finish, with matched naming details to that of the badge, a WW2 era Air Gunner’s ‘AG’ Brevet badge, some post WW2 (1950’s?) snap photographs of F/S Crossman, a 1940’s / 50’s knitted tank top style sweater once belonging to Crossman, and a large colourised frame and glazed photograph of him wearing the same sweater. Notes: information supplied by the vendor suggests that the Caterpillar Badge was awarded to 1813501 Flight Sergeant Leonard Charles Crossman of the Royal Air Force. Published records confirm that F/S Crossman was interred for some period at ‘L3’ prisoner of war camp, which would relate to Stalag Luft III, which of course is famous for the Great Escape of 1944. The circumstances surrounding F/S Crossman’s use of a parachute to bail out of an aircraft are unknown, but it’s assumed that this would have lead to his imprisonment. The pin is tiny, measuring a mere 2cm in length. Condition: good. The Caterpillar pin remains in good condition, with just a little dulling to the gilt finish, and some minuscule dark spotting. The membership card and embroidered Air Gunner’s badge also remain in good condition. The photographs show normal age related light wear, but on the whole are in good condition.
