Description: Mercedes' model 190 / 190E/ 190D (factory designations W201), also called "baby Benz", since it was the smallest car of the German brand at the time (length 445 cm). Designed by Bruno Sacco head of styling at Mercedes-Benz from 1975 to 1999, the W201 debuted at the 1982 Paris Motor show. Manufactured in both Bremen and Sindelfingen, Germany, production reached 1,879,629 over its eleven-year model life. The Mercedes 190 was equipped with a 5-link rear suspension, front and rear has anti-roll bars, anti-dive and anti-squat geometry - as well as airbags and ABS brakes. There was also a naturally aspirated five-cylinder diesel option – the 190D 2.5 – which earned itself a strong reputation for reliability and thrift even if it wasn’t the fastest. The car offered today is a 190D with the 2.5 litre diesel engine mated to the essential Mercedes auto box. It was first registered on 21st March 1988 by Castles Northgate of Leicester to Neal Bros of the same city. Ordered in Cream with oxblood cloth interior, Neal Bros kept the car just shy of two years before it was sold for £14,250 to its next owner. The car then appears to remain with the owner until 20th May 2020. Travelling from Leeds down to Worthing and being maintained on a regular basis. With service stamps in the original service book up to 1999 and 109,000 miles. The car comes with maintenance invoices and MOT’s dating back to the early 1990’s. Having only covered 39,000 miles since 1999 and showing a total of 148,887 miles today. This solid Mercedes block has the potential to still have plenty of life left in her. The car starts and drives. It has been demonstrated to have done so on site. As well as the vendor driving some 25 miles to deliver the car here. MOT’d until 16th November, the car could be considered ready to drive from the sale. There is no doubt some cosmetic work, and should the buyer choose mechanical work, would very soon see this car become an extremely tidy classic indeed. They are as low in value as they are going to become. Its only upwards from here, and this car is a great starting point.
