Batman's Kill Count: After refraining from killing anyone in Detective Comics #31 (Batman's first no-kill adventure), the Caped Crusader makes up for lost time by blasting two bloodsuckers to hell with his smoking gat in this ish. "At the conclusion of the second chapter of 'Batman Versus the Vampire' in Detective Comics #32, Batman opts for a permanent solution for dispatching his supernatural foes. Armed with silver bullets, he visits the Monk's castle and kills the villain and his followers, vowing 'Never again will you hard any mortal being!' The use of lethal force was commonplace in the pulp magazines of the era, and the morality of comic book heroes often followed suit." — Andrew Farago and Gina McIntyre, Batman: The Definitive History of the Dark Knight in Comics, Film, and Beyond. Insight Editions: 2022, p. 18. Scat, Bat Gat: "This business with guns was troublesome, and after one more reoccurrence DC's editorial staff decided to disarm Batman as far as deadly weapons were concerned.... The use of supernatural events would also be discouraged in the future, perhaps on the grounds that nobody should be scarier than Batman." — Les Daniels, Batman: The Complete History. Chronicle: 1999, p. 31. The DC UNIVERSE COLLECTION comprises over 40,000 comic books, including a copy of every single DC comic published for retail sale from 1934 to 2014.
