Raine ("Sir"), thanking him for the extract from his Russian letter and sending him "...a printed notice which will give the information you desire...", one page, dust-staining particularly at top edge, creased at folds, remains of backing at upper verso where previously affixed to album page, 8vo (180 x 112mm.), Tavistock House, Tavistock Square, "Wednesday Thirtieth March 1859"FootnotesWritten at the time Dickens was working on A Tale of Two Cities which was serialized weekly from 30 April to 26 November 1859, this letter is not published in the Chapman & Hall 1880 edition of The Letters of Charles Dickens online nor in the Pilgrim edition. It derives from an album assembled by Frederic Daustini Cremer, a clergyman who worked for George Robinson 1st Marquess of Ripon from 1871-1873.
