FIRST EDITION OF THIS PRIVATELY PRINTED HANDBOOK TO THE SPANISH EMPIRE IN AMERICA. Calle states that it was prepared solely for the use of the King, his cabinet and his ministers though later bibliographers theorize that it was further available to colonial officials. This printing limitation accords well with the classified nature of the data it contains. There are many important notices of discoveries and much detail and statistics on colonial administration. Folios 108-112 contain notices of the discovery of the Point and Gulf of California, including the very recent explorations of Admiral Pedro Porter y Casanate. Collation varies greatly with this work, but some text is lacking in this copy: other copies have 183 foliated leaves plus 2 brief appendices.
