Drummond (Alexander). Travels through Different Cities of Germany, Italy, Greece, and Several Parts of Asia, as far as the Banks of the Euphrates, 1st edition, printed by W. Strahan for the author, 1754, 35 engraved plates (several folding) including frontispiece, faint toning, occasional light spotting and offsetting, damp-staining in gutter of quires S-2A, map of Cyprus (p. 191) with old repairs verso, a few other folding plates with short closed tears at inner folds, later French manuscript annotations on slips mounted to pastedowns, contemporary speckled calf, rebacked and recornered, scuffed, folio (36 x 22.8 cm) (Qty: 1) Atabey 363; Blackmer 497; Cobham-Jeffery p. 12. 'First edition of this important work which displays an intimate knowledge of Cyprus' (Atabey). 'The plates include views, maps, and antiquities, the antiquities particularly from the island of Cyprus' (Blackmer). Drummond travelled through Europe, Asia Minor, Cyprus and Middle East between 1744 and 1750; from 1754 to 1756 he was British consul at Aleppo.
