DU MAURIER, DAPHNE. Two typed letters signed ("Daphne du Maurier Browning" and "Daphne du Maurier"). Cornwall, 15 and 28 July 1965. Together 6 pages, 8vo; with original envelopes. July 15th 1965: "Dear Mr Sullivan... One small criticism, in the Biographical Background. This is rather misleading, as it gives the student the impression that I come of 'aristocratic stock'. I. The du Mauriers were not 'among ancient nobility of France before the French Revolution.' They were master glass-blowers and fine craftsmen at that, but they certainly did not 'flee their homeland' because of their aristocratic blood. The family name was Busson, and my great-great grandfather took the name 'du Maurier' from the farm-house where he was born, believing this came him a certain 'cache' when he emigrated to London, chiefly to escape his debts in Paris, in 1789..."
