DUNSANY, Edward Plunkett, Lord (1878-1957). The Gods of Pegana . London: Elkin Mathews, 1905. 8° (190 x 140mm). Eight photogravure illustrations by S.H. Syme. Uncut. Partially unopened. Original boards (a little discoloured at head), green morocco case. FIRST EDITION. INSCRIBED BY DUNSANY AND JAMES STEPHENS. Eight-line poem, composed by Dunsany on December 28 1920, inscribed on pastedown and front free endpaper in the author's hand, and dated September 21 1922 ('In a dream I must have gone, In a dream and sleeping fast, To a city never known, In a land that cannot last. Thence these stories I have brought For your cities mad with steam, That a dream from skies throughout May be mingled with your dream.') James Stephens admired Dunsany greatly, as is clear from the critical appraisal written here in his hand on recto and verso of half-title. Exhibited : Grolier Club (exhibition label loosely inserted). DUNSANY, Lord. Selections from the Writings of Lord Dunsay . Dundrum: The Cuala Press, 1912. ° (209 x 143mm). Unopened. Original cloth-backed boards, green half morocco case. LIMITED TO 250 COPIES. This copy signed by W.B. Yeats at the end of the introduction and dated May 3, 1920; signed by Dunsanay on colophon. Yeats selected the extracts for inclusion in this collection; and another 4 works by Dunsany, including The Chronicles of Rodriguez (1922), signed by the author and illustrator, Sidney H. Sime. (6)
