Beschreibung:

34 - 1/2" gently curving blade with partial double fuller running 3/4 of the blade. Marked on left side of ricasso with "(A)MES MFG CO / CHICOPEE / MASS", right side marked " US / JH / 1859". Leather washer still present. Braided brass wire over leather grip. Brass guard with three branches. Pommel with "JH" and "WAT" inspection marks. Comes with a correctly fitting scabbard. CONDITION: Good. Blade has been cleaned over scattered pitting. There are a few very small nicks in the blade. Legends are still visible but soft, with the 'A' in Ames being very difficult to read. Brass has taken on a lovely patina. Grip has some light damage on either side of the bottom section of brass. Scabbard has turned an even brown patina with a visible weld line. No dents in the metal. Some brass coloring is still visible on the scabbard in protected areas. This is a very good example of a rare pre-War dated Ames saber. PROVENANCE: From the Collection of George M. Rapport. EW.
