Anonymous sixth plate, housed in an embossed leather case, with early gilded paper mat, ca late 1840s. Although the subject is unidentified, this image was recently found in upstate New York near Lake George. This is the traditional homeland of the Mohawk, one of the six tribes comprising the Iroquois Confederacy. The elderly gentleman wears a fine cape and grips a cane. While we have been unable to identify the sitter, we suspect that he was an elderly leader. Condition: Tarnish ring around perimeter where plate meets mat; case completely separated at hinge; resealed with filmoplast P-90, but original seal included.
