Edward, Duke of Windsor Five typed letters signed ("Edward"), to Viscount Beaverbrook inviting him to dinners, often with prominent company ("...We have succeeded in luring Winston over to dinner tonight with the promise of good brandy and a game of 'Oklahoma'..."), referring to the political upheavals of the period ("...Trying to seek some agreement with totalitarian powers certainly is a grim, thankless and discouraging task...", 3 October 1946) and one letter commenting on the care he would need to take over a memoir, 5 pages, 8vo, one envelope, Paris and La Croe, Cap d'Antibes, 18 January 1939 to 29 September 1946, creasing, rust marks, punch holes "...As you so rightly observe, the telling of the events of 1936 will be difficult and will require all the tact and skill at my command should I eventually decide to embark upon my version of so controversial an episode of British History..." Letters demonstrating the friendship between Beaverbrook and the Duke of Windsor in the years following the Duke's abdication. Edward and the Duchess of Windsor had ongoing friendships with the preeminent political figures of the day. Beaverbrook strongly advised Edward against his relationship with Wallis Simpson, all the while publishing intimate details of it in his newspaper, The Daily Express.
