Beschreibung:

Statutes of the reigns of Edward III and Richard II, mostly in French, written in two English charter-hands, 330 leaves on vellum, in dark brown ink up to folio 314, and continued in another smaller charter-hand employing lighter ink (the second scribe taking over abruptly with the title of 7 Ric. II, c.2 in the table of contents and in the middle of 11 Ric. II, c.8 at the top of f.314, where no natural break appears in the text), foliated in pencil by W.W. Skeat, with headings for each new year in larger script throughout, with running titles ("Anno primo" etc.) in a larger script throughout, chapter numbers in margin, table of contents at beginning (7 Ric. II, c.2 - 12 Ric. II, c.17, ff.14-15, in the second hand), with two and three-line initials in blue at the beginning of the statutes for each year until the end of quire xxxvi, paragraph-marks in the margins and text in blue and red ink until the end of quire xxxvi, when the signatures also cease, with naturally-occurring lacuna appearing occasionally (f.322 an irregular shape), original vellum spine partly defective but tightly bound, inscription on fly-leaf recording the gift of the volume from the Rev Lewis Stephens [DD, of Exeter?] to Francis Gregor [soldier, of Trewarthenick, Cornwall, father of William Gregor, the discoverer of titanium], bookplate of G.W.F. Gregor [of Trewarthenick], with the pencil ownership inscription of the great Middle English scholar W.W. Skeat, by whom the volume has been foliated in pencil, small 4to (c.135 x 100 mm., c.80 mm. thick), [England, c.1400]
