Beschreibung:

EDWARD VI, King of England (1547-1553). Letter signed ('Edward') to the Dean and Chapter of Exeter, Westminster, 10 February 'the seconnd yeare of oure reygne' [1548], signed at the head, countersigned by the Lord Protector ('E[dward] Somerset'), 10 lines written in brown ink, one page, 205 x 315 mm , address panel on verso, contemporary endorsement, ownership stamp (paper loss in right margin, not affecting text, small tear (22 mm) in lower edge). The King forwards a grant by the Bishop of Exeter to Sir William Paget, 'nothing doubting of your conformitie to do us gratuitie and pleasour', asking the recipient to 'conforme the said graunte under yo[u]r chapitre seale' and return it. In 1548 Bishop John Veysey (1465?-1554), formerly a favourite of Henry VIII, granted Exeter Place to Paget; in his later years the bishop was gradually compelled to alienate the choicest possessions of the see, before surrendering the see itself to Edward VI in 1551.
