EINSTEIN, Albert (1879-1955). Autograph letter and typed letter signed ('A.' and 'Papa') to his first wife, Mileva, n.p. and Saranac Lake NY, 14 February 1939 and 14 August 1941, discussing the financial arrangements for the Huttenstrasse house in Zurich (which, in order to relieve Mileva of an onerous mortgage, had been purchased by a trust organised by Einstein), in the first pointing out that this has 'cost me not only a lot of money but also a lot of time. You have nothing at all in your hands apart from a sort of contract of employment as an administrator'; while the period of administration for her debts continues, proceeds from the trust will be sent to Eduard's address; 'I shall also make testamentary arrangements, so that even after my death everything will carry on all right'; the later, typed letter attempts to simplify proceedings by giving Mileva management of the house, even at the risk that this will endanger the previous arrangements; the letter ends with happy news of their grandson, Bernhard ('Hadi'), 'ein kräftiger Junge', together 2 pages, 4to , envelope.
