A very attractive Revolutionary war period English ribbon hilt back sword with long 34.5 in. blade, 1 3/8 in. wide at forte. Blade with long single fuller, ribbon hilt well forged, a pommel matching the hilt, a spirally fluted oak grip, missing wire. The blade condition mostly smooth metal with worn etching on each side difficult to read. The ribbon hilt in good condition except for a forging fault on right steel panel. Pommel in good condition. Oak grip in fair condition with good patination but one chip. Sword is tight and has never been apart. A fine example of basket-hilted battle sword. Provenance:From the Collection of Robert Erlandson
