Drawings & Watercolours from the Collection of a Connoisseur ENGLISH SCHOOL (circa 1790) Flamsteed House, Greenwich circa 1790, The Royal Observatory, with a figure looking through a telescope towards Greenwich Park indistinctly signed verso watercolour 13 x 20 cm (5 1/8 x 7 3/4 in) together with two further watercolours: English School (circa 1811), inscribed verso, Sketch looking at the River Tyne, S. Shields, 27 June 1811; English School (circa 1830) inscribed verso, In Paradise Park, Leicester in distance various hands all unframed (3) Flamsteed House was the original observatory building at Greenwich and was designed by Sir Christopher Wren and Robert Hooke and built in 1675-76. John Flamsteed was the first Astronomer Royal and lived and worked there until his death in 1719. Shown here with the round dome on top of the pavilion on the right. The dome on the left had projections and was used as a camera obscura. These two domes no longer exist.
