Provenance : John Ambrose Fleming (1849-1945), inventor of the vacuum diode, the first electron tube (presentation inscription on p.[1] "With Author's compliments to Mr. Fleming London Oct 28 R. Esnault"). FIRST EDITION, PRESENTATION COPY, RESEARCH ON THEORETICAL ASTRONAUTICS BY ESNAULT-PELTERIE, FRANCE's LEADING PIONEER IN ROCKETRY. Originally delivered as a lecture to the Socit Astronomique de France on 8 June 1927. Norman 714. -- "Considrations sur les rsultats d'un allgement indfini des moteurs" in: Journal de physique thorique et applique , 5th series, volume III, March 1913, pp. 218-230. Paris: Bureau du journal de physique, 1913. Original blue printed wrappers, uncut (some wear, losses to spine). FIRST EDITION. Esnault-Pelterie's first lecture, intended to stimulate interest in and support for interplanetary travel, was delivered first in St. Petersburg and later in Paris, in 1912. This was the first scientific study by a European on the theoretical means of using rockets for space flight. Norman 713. (2)
