Joseph Mitchell Chapple was a well-known editor, publisher, and author, born in LaPorte City, IA in 1867. He attended school at Cornell College of Iowa. At the age of 16, Chapple edited a newspaper in Grand Rapids, ND, and later became editor and proprietor of the Ashland Daily Press. He then worked in Chicago, IL until 1897, when he took charge of the Bostonian, changing its name to the National Magazine, serving as editor and publisher of the paper. The lot is accompanied by a Xerox copy of a 2010 affidavit stating that it was purchased from the Robert Todd Lincoln Beckwith Estate. Provenance: Purchased From the Estate of Robert Todd Beckwith, Last Male Descendent of Abraham Lincoln Condition: Chapple's signatures on the TLsS are strong; the inscription inside book is strong.
