London: Richard Bentley 1847. 2 volumes, 8vo (221 x 140 mm). 2 folding maps, 2 frontispiece plates. Original brown stamped cloth, uncut. Condition : map in vol. I with few short marginal tears, some creases, browing; hinges splitting (vol. I), cloth rubbed, corners bumped. Provenance : Dudley Bell Priester (bookplate). "Featherstonaugh's principal interests on this portion of his tour were the Indians and the gold mining operations in Georgia and North Carolina; and these items are described in considerable detail of his experiences on steamboats and stage coaches…he regarded the rudeness and lack of discipline…as more typical of southern society."
