Federal Reserve Notes, 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100-Dollars, series of 1914 (Fr. 836, 896, 956, 1016, 1076; see Hessler p. 186), all Richmond District, a composite black and red face essay and green back Proof of each, all on bond paper, arranged in a cardboard display frame, on the faces the red seals and serial numbers E0000000A are pasted on, in a panel at the bottom of the frame a signed inscription reads "DIE-PROOF IMPRESSIONS OF THE FACES AND BACKS OF FEDERAL RESERVE NOTES, FOR THE HONORABLE JOSEPH E. RALPH, DIRECTOR OF THE BUREAU OF ENGRAVING AND PRINTING WITH THE COMPLIMENTS OF THE SECRETARY OF THE TREASURY, WASHINGTON D.C., DECEMBER 21, 1914, (signed in ink), W.G. McAdoo, SECRETARY", and below it a secondary handwritten inscription reads "To J.W. Sullivan, compliments of J.E. Ralph, Director", all except the 100-Dollar back show even aging as a result of acidity in the original mounting, however, according to the 1986 Bowers and Merena catalogue entry the item was expertly restored and stabilised during the early 1980's, a magnificent and rare Federal presentation item
