Fiennes (William, 1582-1662). 1st Viscount Saye & Sele. Document Signed, ‘W. Say & Seale’, 1642, lower part of a manuscript Treasury warrant to pay Edward Fulham, bearing the signatures of four Lords of the Treasury, William Fiennes, Edward Littleton (Lord Keeper of the Great Seal), Edward Barrett (1st Lord Barrett of Newburgh), and Henry Montagu (as Earl of Manchester), a little soiling and some edge wear not affecting signatures or text, 1 page, 14 x 20.5 cm, laid down on a slightly larger old album leaf, together with an ink signature of 'T. Dorset, 18 March 1606' the signature and date on two small paper strips, pasted adjacent to form one piece, 11 x 97 mm, laid on a slightly larger piece of card (Quantity: 2) William Fiennes, 1st Viscount Saye and Sele, English nobleman and politician, known also for his involvement in several companies for setting up overseas colonies. He helped establish a company for the colonisation of Providence Island in 1630. In 1643 in England he was appointed a commissioner for the government of the plantations. A good example of his signature from during the English Civil War. Henry Montagu, 1st Earl of Manchester, 1st Viscount Mandeville (c. 1563- 1642), Lord High Treasurer, 14 December 1620 to 29 September 1621. Edward Littleton, 1st Lord Littleton (1589-1645), Lord High Treasurer, 1641-1643. Thomas Sackville, 1st Earl of Dorset (1536-1608), English statesman, poet, and dramatist. He was the son of Richard Sackville, a cousin to Anne Boleyn. He was a Member of Parliament and Lord High Treasurer, 1599-1608.
