Lot of 15, ranging in size from 7 x 5 in. to 10 x 8 in. Several views of shoe repair shop interiors, including images of an apron-clad man wearing round, heavy glasses, as well as mustachioed proprietor standing behind a table laden with shoes,with poster reading: "You can tell the women who wear O'Sullivan's Heels - they walk with grace and vigor of youth." Other images capture scenes from larger factories, including a massive group portrait taken at a "machine shop" in 1920 (on verso). Standing and seated workers pose before a sign for Niles-Bement-Pond Co., a nineteenth-century manufacturing company based in Hamilton, OH, specializing in machines for the railroad industry and producing some of the largest machine tools at the time. Some bear inscriptions, such a photograph of a man in a cluttered interior space, standing with his arms crossed, labeled in pencil on verso: "My Daddy - George Swartz / signed (Ruth Swartz Kepler)."
