FINE GROUPING OF EIGHTEEN CANES AND WALKING STICKS. 19th through mid 20th centuries, America, Europe and United Kingdom. Including three carved-and-turned lignum vitae and ebonized examples. The first, a ring-turned spiral carved example with curved handle and thumb rest on a tapered shaft with abalone spot accents. The second, a baluster-and-ring-turned cylindrical walking stick with celluloid spacers. The third an ebonized walking stick with rare and unusual globe form hand grip, chased and decorated overall with stars and moons in diagonal rows. The hinged lid of globe released by depressing button to reveal a spring driven clock set within globe. The side of the glove is fitted with what appears to be flap which when straightened and turned is the winder for the watch. The watch with roman numeral and Arabic chapter rings on an enamel dial 15/16 of an inch in diameter. Four additional canes and walking sticks with cylindrical turned shafts. One with reeded hand grip joined to brass collar, mahogany shaft, and the handle of polished bone. A reproduction walking stick with baluster-turned hickory shaft, the walnut or teak hand grip with a band of scrimshawed resin with the scrimmed words “Liberty” and “Freedom” alternating with American flags, the upper shaft with five pointed stars and the scrimmed date “1776”. The third, a cylindrical walking stick with hard rubber or resin grip; the top fitted with compass and sundial. The fourth, a knotted walking stick, probably hickory, surmounted by a silver band with the name “Daryl Ryder, April, 1867”, the turned ivory hand grip well worn with good patina. Five additional walking sticks comprised of a hickory crop with brass banding and carved stag horn grip to which is attached a short sword blade. A tapered cylindrical walking stick with tooled silver grip that can be removed to reveal a flint lighter. A cane with curved horn handle and simulated bamboo shaft opening to a fully calibrated measured brass extension and extending square believed to measure the height of horses. A cylindrical oak sword cane with faceted handle and polished blade. Another sword cane with grained cylindrical shaft and shepherd’s crook handle carved in shallow relief with leaves. A carved hickory walking stick with curved handle mounted overall with souvenir emblems of European cities in Germany, Switzerland and Bavaria. A carved folk art cane, with the name “GEO. H BRADFORD. CARRIE BRADFORD. ST. LOUIS. 1877″. An interesting walking stick of amorphous natural form. Two nondescript canes and a polished bone cane of simulated bamboo scrimmed beneath the grip with a patriotic eagle with turned teak hand grip inlaid with an 8 Reales Mexican silver coin circa 1882. SIZE: Length ranges from 26-1/2″ to 37”. PROVENANCE: The Estate of Morris Racker. Special Note: This item(s) contains plant or animal properties that may be covered by the Endangered Species Act (ESA). Please read the Conditions of Sale, section 15, for more information regarding the Endangered Species Act, and your responsibilities as a buyer. CONDITION: Condition ranges from fair to very good.
