Nigeria Popularly called "mandarin" garnet as the color resembles that of the citrus fruit, this variety of spessartite garnet is unmodified by brown or yellow. Named after its original source in Spessart, Germany the best deposits are presently found in Africa. The present stone comes from a very sought-after locality, much rarer than the Nigerian deposit. Spessartite garnets of a reddish-orange color with excellent clarity normally do not exceed a few carats in weight. Generally, large gems of spessartite garnet are either dark with unattractive color and/or inclusions. However, this large gem is a very rare example with its sought-after orange hue, superb brilliance and luster. Truly a stone for the collector this lovely ring centers on a fine cushion-shaped Mandarin garnet, weighing approximately 7.90 carats, which displays a vivid orange hue as well as excellent luster and very good transparency, micro pavé-set diamonds throughout the entire shank and bridge, diamonds weighing approximately 0.90 carat total, mounted in 18K yellow gold, size 6.
