R.F.R.) very fine and better (5) £180-£220 Joseph Mansford was born in Stratford, Essex, on 4 January 1882 and enlisted in the Royal Navy on 7 January 1901. Advanced Stoker 1st Class on 1 July 1906, he was shore pensioned on 30 August 1907, joining the Royal Fleet Reserve the following day. Recalled for Great War service, he served in H.M.S. Europa in the Dardenelles campaign, and subsequently in H.M.S. Foresight and H.M.S. Victory. Demobilised on 15 June 1918, he was awarded his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal on 11 May 1922. He died in Uxbridge, Middlesex, in April 1946.
