The author was William Roscoe's daughter-in-law and was better known as a botanical artist under her maiden name Margaret Lace. Robert Havell's exquisite engravings and aquatints demonstrate his mastery as a natural history illustrator. Nissen 1676. Lot Amendments Condition: Spine faded; paper restoration to descriptive leaves of plates 3 & 8; plate 41 shaved at head with resulting loss of plate number, plate 46 shaved into title at bottom, a few other plates shaved into plate impression but without affecting illustration, occasional light foxing; overall near fine.
